Re: where can i buy great fish for makeing sushi in the east bay area?
Thu, January 10, 2008 - 12:28 PMI have bought all of those items at tokyo fish market before, but perhaps their availability changes (since we're talking about super-fresh things). berkeley bowl, monterey fish market, ranch 99 are more affordable, but have a limited selection of sushi-grade fish (which I might add, is sometimes flash-frozen). and personally I'd rather pay more for something I'm gonna eat raw, as I want the best quality I can get. -

Thu, January 10, 2008 - 1:00 PMClement St. is in SF. As for other locations in SF for sushi grade fish, you might want to try Wholefoods, Falletti's, Bryan's (out in Laurel Village). I kinda trust these guys since they're a bit cleaner for sushi grade fish than out on Clement. The fish I buy on that strip is only for cooking. I know there's another place in Japantown, but I can't remember the name of it. It is a big Japanese market though. -

Totally agreed. But its so close to my house, sometimes I get lazy. I totally love Bryans. The store is gorgeous and they have great cheese too. (Note to others - Bryans has 2 locations in Laurel Village one for meat and one for everything else, so don't be confused if you walk into the wrong one and can't find any meat!)
